Is there science behind this, or is it an old redditor’s tale?
Yeah, it's a pretty well known genetic characteristic. My HS science teacher made us taste it to demonstrate something about genetics. I love cilantro, my grandmother can't stand it.
when i had a bubble bath as a kid i ate the bubbles and it was yumy
It tastes like soap insofar as it tastes like mint, a cold burn. Is that what is being referred to?
It's genetics. For I think 30% of the world's population it tastes like literal soap.
Idk. It doesn't taste like mint at all to me. Soap is legitimately a good way of describing it to me, but for some reason it tastes really good to me whereas actual soap definitely does not.
There's no bitterness or anything like that
Uh...LISTEN do not diss Kacey Musgraves
Or cilantro, I guess.
Cilantro actually tastes like coca cola. Its mising some flavours but there is a core in cocacola that is cilantro like.
Cola often has coriander flavor. Here's a recipe (of course you have to scroll through an entire novel to read it)

While I can't stand the taste of cilantro, I've never thought it tastes like soap, but rather like mint. It's just this very "sharp" taste that sticks out immediately in whatever I'm eating and it's very jarring.
i don't know what c/realtheory refers to and at this point i'm afraid to ask. seems like a cool place though
