i believe in authoritarianism so we can tell people and companies "no, the planet does not need this bullshit."
a bunch of scalpers bulk-bought McDonald’s supply of pocket monster cards
dumbest timeline
Even as a kid I figured these toys were disposable plastic. Why would I want more of that as an adult?
People buy funko pops that you can't even play with and then leave them in the boxes.
the best one was the back to the future car with Doc hanging out of it. i still have it lol
and the back of it has little sparks in it when you rev it up
i like how capitalism produces little trinkets with no value but tells you they'll have collector's value in 30 years but actually they won't
God, streetwear shit is a scourge. It's the pinnacle of everything wrong with fast fashion dipped in a hefty, drippy coating of "gotta have the new thing" capitalism and wrapped up in the ugliest bow on Earth.
How the fuck do they get away with creating intentionally tacky and ugly products and then selling them to poor people for an entire paycheck simply by creating even more artificial scarcity. And people literally cannot get enough of this shit!
I don't know, but it's infuriating. I remember in the early days of web 2.0, I got into an argument with a flock of douchebags because I said it was a waste of money, when people who want unique, obscure shit could just make it themselves with like screen printing equipment / iron ons and end up paying far less than these bullshit boutique prices for what is absolutely the same thing.
they could not get there mentally. like these people need to be told "this is a cool treat that will make people respect you" as someone shows them the item. the notion that the one telling them this is just a human behind a curtain was a bridge too far.
