Can I piggy back on this to ask a question. I just sent a link to a pirated series to a lefty friend, and he replied "I'd rather not watch this as it's riskier for solicitors to view pirated content". Like WTF is that real??

When you take the bar in the U.S. you have to swear an oath that you've never committed a felony. There are probably similar "I will never do anything naughty" oaths for practicing officers of the court that two or three lawyers take seriously. I imagine it's similar in other countries.

The thing is, when you watch a pirated episode of family guy and someone important knows you did and exposes you, you don't have to convince techbros or genz's that you didn't violate your oath, you have to convince a level 100 conservative boomer that's never owned a computer, had a phone number, or owned a non-black-and-white TV that the activity you performed was not an ethical violation of your oath.

To be fair, if it’s a country outside the west you don’t have much to worry about unless you think your ISP might be monitoring you

In the West. Sorry to be fucking vague.

I'm not worried. It's just funny that "OMG I work with the courts" matters with piracy.

Oh yeah that makes sense. Good call though, wouldn’t want the clients being doxed either lol
