I am diabetic (managed through diet) and I can't eat starchy plants, period. Rice, beans, sweet potato- etc. Can't do it, I get ill and have severe blood sugar spikes. Grains? NOPE!

I've limited my meat intake as much as possible, switched to plant based milk, and I'm looking forward to lab grown options.

I find that it's more helpful to encourage people to do what they can to reduce meat intake instead of snapping at them and putting them on the defensive.

Carbohydrates are processed as sugar in the body as well as an excess of protein. I'm on a high fat, mid protein, and low carb diet.

I've lost 100 pounds, my fatty liver stopped being fatty, and my A1c dropped to 4.8.

Even "slow carbs" dont work for me, and I got severe brain fog/migrains, gut problems, and severe inflammation last time I attempted to eat a high fiber/low fat diet a few months ago.

I still eat a lot of non root veg, tofu, and nuts/seeds, and I don't eat dairy- but it's really hard to reach my protein macro without going over my carb macro. My body just can't handle sugar.

It's something I'm willing to keep experimenting with tho.
