Folks, let’s bring back bloodletting in 2022. While we are at it, does anybody have any good tips on warding off the lingering miasma in my home?

It's simple, you just need to trepan a hole into your skull so the noxious fumes don't get stuck in there

Honestly I find this more funny than creepy. Giving a leech a bow and calling it princess is just :chefs-kiss:

Each leech can consume about 5 to 10 ml of blood at each feeding, almost 10 times its own weight. They have three jaws and a hundred teeth. As they bite, they inject an anaesthetic into the skin and their saliva contains anticoagulants which stop the blood clotting

Leeches only feed about once every six months, this is about how long the blood meal takes to be fully digested. Certain bacteria keep the blood from decaying during the long digestion period.

yim yum. also better than actual landlords

Landlords feed every month and they don't even give out any anaesthetic! :angery:

Whoa, that bacteria tho. What if we could cultivate a benign strain to act as a preservative in medical blood supplies?

I keep my fish tanks immaculate but I'd still be worried about tankborne disease. Otherwise, though, I don't really think this is that gross. It's just people with weird interests being passionate about their weird interests.

Is there a way to make sure these things are clean? Or are these people ordering medical grade leeches as pets? I'm actually really curious about this subculture now.

Rats are literally my favorite animal so I shouldn't judge, you're right. It's just an initial reaction thing.

I definitely get how this could make someone squeamish! I have a thing about my own blood so these would not be the pets for me...

Jokes aside I have respect for anyone capable of extending their empathy this far from their own branch of the evolutionary tree. Still kinda gross though

Those arms are so skinny, I'm surprised she has any blood in there at all.
