    the floor has at least three different types of tiles/paint-on-concrete and their layouts have no relationship to the rest of the restaurant.

    My go-to was a short-lived restaurant that my co-worker and her friends hastily opened. The food was so good, but it wasn't managed well at all. They were all friends and put together the restaurant to serve food they liked. Everything was so authentic because it was just the neighbors who cooked their own recipes. They served food with generic plastic utensils and cups. You could tell they were confident with their food.

    It's sad because it went out of business due to many reasons that could just be summed up as capitalism.

    The prices on the menu are crossed out and taped over with revised prices over the years. There is a permanent layer of grease covering the walls and everything that isnt the chairs and tables. There are 400 items on the menu but everyone only orders 3 different things. The child of the owner is doing their homework on the table in the corner. The decor has not changed since 1970.

    This only applies to HK cafes.

      When it's a combination deli and grocery

      Like a pho restaurant where half of it is Asian spices, mixes, noodles, candy, etc. There's a pile of durian next to a stack of Daikon in a fridge in the back.

    Very old, cheap, and incoherent decorations and a cheap menu. Shows the place stands up on the renown of their food alone, and doesn't charge extra for the decorum

    They have between 2 and 5 locations, all in the same city/region

    Multiple locations usually means they food is good enough for them to open other places, but too many usually means they’re starting to compromise on quality in the name of profit

    The artwork is of real scenes, if they have any. A little picture of a burbling brook or a nice tree with the moon. Abstract art is a form of liberalism, folks.
