It's absolutely a played out stereotype but it's really not a fair analysis to compare the most celebrated members of a profession with its most amateur participants. Mostly since if you pick just about any profession the most famous people will be men because patriarchy and whatnot

Leaving it uncovered on a rack will dry it out, but that can be desirable if you want the exterior to crisp up, as crisping goes faster when you start with less water.
It’s why I leave the whole turkey uncovered in the fridge for a couple days before roasting for holiday meals.

Yeah I don't think there's much that can be done to save food that's been uncovered in the fridge like that, taste and texture wise.
At least there's some water and fat (think it's butter) for the hangover
