This moron thinks Verification is a service for celebrities. It's a service for Twitter the company, and all other Twitter users. It allows users to:
- Trust the identity of posters
- Think wowie Twitter is where all the big people are posting
It helps Twitter to:
- not be the center of defamation lawsuits

Twitter was a big boon to the TV media especially with elections and quoting politicians etc. If the media ignores twitter during this election cycle it could undermine him as well. Lotta eggs in the basket.
I'm not sure he's going to in the near future - the consortium of ghouls that financed his purchase and took the company private probably want to use this to push their propaganda, which doesn't have to make money.
twitter was a failed CIA experiment and this is how they chose to end it.

It has very similar parallels to what happened to the IRC network called Freenode a year or two ago. Basically everyone packed up and relocated to another server.
