Yeah, the Bluechecks are furious about this. The bluecheck is (was) a mark of modern aristocracy. If you got one, you were a member of an elite club. Twitter can and did punish people by taking theirs away. This happened to Scott Adams IIRC.

But now, anyone with $8 can get one? Boy, Musk couldn't have thought of a more offensive idea. No more aristocracy, no more lording it over the peasants. What the hell is the point of being elite if you can't do that‽ There are going to be a lot of very angry people. Musk is going to get his shit wrecked by these people coordinating behind the scenes. They have real power, and they can do much more than blackballing Twitter.

lmao imagine thinking monetizing twitter verification is somehow good for the proletariat.

      The fuck are you on?

That’s a stupid thing to say. The blue check doesn’t make anyone feel elite lol. The elites are elites because they have millions of dollars. The blue check mark means nothing.

        imagine thinking

An apt phrase, that. In that you imagined that I said it.

Read my comment again. Where do I say anything about "good for the proletariat"? Read it a third time. Please quote the line to me.

I didn't say that. What I said is it's going to royally piss off elites.

You don't have to clap like seals. I literally didn't say that either.

I said that elites are going to be very, very angry indeed.

The blue check mark doesn’t make them elite. They’re elite because they have money. The blue check is just to verify that a person is the actual person they say they are.

People are just making fun of Elon’s stupid idea that isn’t going to work. Very few people are gonna pay for this.

Seethe, twitter users! Seethe. Cry and moan how your precious outrage generating machine is dismantled and you have to go to another site or even outside. Fuck the bird site and anyone who thinks it's important ✊

As much as Ive always hated the blue checks for legacy media employees etc, it has been a good way to quickly spot opinions I should probably disregard

Trolling the left by charging for blue checks and trolling the right into paying for blue checks. Truly an enlightened centerist.

I love how literally no one knows what democracy means anymore. We are truely are a country of illiterate monkeys in suits. This is just Caesar crossing the Rubicon but 'first time as tragedy second as farce'
