Do I get a u-word pass if my Asian roommate taught me how to cook?

There seems to be a lot of confusion over when Anglicizing words from other languages is good, and when it's bad. This insight can provide the fuel for many future struggle sessions.

At this point Japanese has a lot of English loanwords. My roommate lived in Japan for a few years and always says how you can get shockingly far if you just speak English with a terrible stereotypical Japanese accent (and yes that part is very necessary)

That's true. And if you know some katakana it's not even forcing an accent, its just following the languages rules for loan word pronunciation

In English it is so confusing. I can understand spoken Hindi but seeing it written in roman characters trips me up so hard.
