The rules are, you declare independence and shoot every black and tan that sets foot over the border, 1919 style.

you're allowed to secede but only if you are a 92ft tall orphan single mother of 7 children and you stand on one leg in barbados as you submit the application. oh and you have to be eating beans while you do it.

IT'S IN THE MAGNA CARTA PEASANT!

this is more the SNP covering their ass, they wanted to do that anyway, but they would have looked like morons if they didn't try "the proper routes" anyway; this is to disarm the idiot centrists from going "well actually the proper routes, the checks and balances, the democracy", etc.

A big part of radicalization is convincing people that the proper routes have been tried and don't work.

yup, the people pulling statues down have happened in the tail of trying to politely petition city councils and the like (in some places) for a decade

And post-hoc (post-hog?) you can get libs on board by saying, truthfully, that you tried it the "right" way but only this produced results.

    There are now three options.

    1. Hold the referendum anyway, which will likely be disrupted or Catalonia'd.
    2. SNP runs in a general election as a single issue independence party, with victory resulting in unilateral independence.
    3. [ Redacted ] to gently persuade westminster to give people democracy.

option 2 seems a bit too easily sabotaged. i get that things are bad in the uk but they aren't south sudan tier yet. i imagine people still want some level normalcy in this independence process.

historically speaking, the anglos being against your independence increases the chances you do become independent

He also rejected the Scottish government's argument that any referendum would simply be "advisory" and would have no legal effect on the union, with people only being asked to give their opinion on whether or not Scotland should become an independent country.

Lord Reed said: "A lawfully held referendum would have important political consequences relating to the union and the United Kingdom Parliament.

"Its outcome would possess the authority, in a constitution and political culture founded upon democracy, of a democratic expression of the view of the Scottish electorate.

"It is therefore clear that the proposed Bill has more than a loose or consequential connection with the reserved matters of the Union of Scotland and England, and the sovereignty of the United Kingdom Parliament."

lmao this is hilarious, basically an open endorsement of autocracy "Sorry we can't do it, that would be democracy and that's bad"

the nazis in r/europe are gleefully explaining how there was already a vote 8 years ago and you cant just have another vote, the people have spoken.

excellent argument to never have any kind of elections ever in the UK again. after all, they voted for the tories some years ago, so why should they keep holding votes? the people have already spoken.

not that elections matter, with two tory parties.

And there was more than a litte funny business over that vote 8 years ago too. Amongst other things it was basically the BBC test-run for Corbyn and going total fabricated Tory-state mouthpiece.

I hate anyone who says this. Why can't they get it through their thick skulls the Brexit changed things and the Scottish people might have a different opinion now because of it?

Especially since like the main No campaign reasoning was that an independent Scotland would no longer be in the EU.

everybody calm the fuck down, just because there's not a legal route doesn't mean the SNP are going to lie down, if anything this is a stunt to further ralicalise their base and jockey for a "political" solution (i.e. going ahead with it anyway, by hook or by crook, such as running the next election on a platform of secession which if they win they must uphold because muh sacred mandate)

  • edge [he/him]

Wasn't the SNP planning for this and are going to do something else instead?

They should just hold the referendum anyway and declare independence if it passes. Dare the UK to send troops in.
