"Not trying to get free work" said the guy desperately trying to get free work

Makes me think of stories I'd hear about tech companies doing sham interviews so they could get interviewees to give them free bits of code

I moved to Tokyo without a job so I had to hustle to get an English teaching job before my visa expired. One interview I had was very, very strange. Long story short...

The very small English conversation school had a weekly "party" and the teacher who should be there wasn't going to show up so the owner had me pitch hit without telling me. The interview was a sham. There was no chance for a job. The owner needed an native English speaker with a pulse to be there to speak English. After five uncomfortable minutes - I figured that out and I made an excuse to leave.

I dunno, but it is the same account that was in the Trent Reznor thread where they were trying a bit too hard to play devil's advocate for Musk's dumb ass so...

Non zero chance it's just some low effort :reddit-logo: Musk nerd wrecker

lol "give me a one-liner to auto-complete from: without any access to information about how the backend system works" would you like a gold-shitting unicorn as well?

the fact that he thinks that's even possible, what is he even doing there

Man, I wish I could tweet out "do my job for me, I don't know how" after one day of trying and still get taken seriously.

Hopefully he gets promoted. Twitter should just be Elon, Lex Friedman, and thousands of these kinds of people.

I love how he managed to convince Elon that he could fix the incredibly complex search algorithm in a few months but realised that he's out of his league once he has to solve the problem "Do one thing if the search query starts with from:, do another if it doesn't".

Edit: I also love how he asks for a one-liner to paste into the js console to solve what is by nature a backend problem.

Ok but how do I get his job? Getting paid probably a six figure salary to fuck around and do whatever I want with one of the largest websites in the world sounds cool.

Nah tech internships always pay. Six figures isn't unheard of though it's not usually quite that much.

Fair enough and that makes sense having read the other comments about him being a known dev. Most tech firms I've ever done business with pay their interns (decently often) but I didn't have any faith that'd be the case with Musk's new hardcore sleep under your desk dumpster fire Twitter. Appreciate the correction though.

A lot of tech internships don't pay at all. It's a way to keep undesirables out of the pipeline. If you can't afford to be without income for 6-12 months (i.e. you don't have family money) then you don't belong in the dude bros club.

damn if some of these tech companies wanted to save money, they'd accept remote workers from the midwest where starting salaries are nearly half of what isn't unheard of for an intern in SF

How did this dude pass interview for twitter intern anyway. Like, isn't that position competitive.
