dallos is about a worker's rebellion

revolutionary girl utena is more allegorical but is the best show of all time and is entirely about why liberalism is flawed and we need to escape the current capitalist mode of thinking

patlabor is a cop show by people who understand why cops are bad but are more concerned with "wouldn't it be funny if the cops had to try and plan for godzilla and were really bad at it?" the answer is it would be VERY funny. patlabor the movie is a perfect action movie about those cops being goofy but stopping a terrorist attack. patlabor 2 is a 2 hour lecture on imperialism and japan's place in the new post-soviet world order

Dallos and Patlabor are both Mamoru Oshii directed things - him, and other anime and manga creators that had a history with Japanese new left tend to have some nice crunchy politics in their works. I'd say that Oshii is the one with the most "openly communisty" work, but others will give you some tasty anti-imperialist themes (like with Yoshiyuki Tomino and certain eras of Hayao Miyazaki)

Oh, cool, that's good to know!

I actually am torrenting the Patlabor TV series as I write and just finished downloading the movies as well as Revolutionary Girl Utena. But I couldn't find Dallos, I'll have to do a Crunchyroll trial to watch it but that's okay.

I'll look out for Oishii and Tomino. Thanks!

For Patlabor, the big one is the "Early Days" 7-part OVA and the movies. The first movie is a fun romp circling around a ridiculous real estate project, and the second is pretty much a 2-hour Metal Gear scene (in the best way). I haven't seen the TV version, but I've heard good things.

I'll look out for Oishii and Tomino. Thanks!

Go watch Mobile Suit Gundam, the TV version specifically, it's fantastic!
