Only a fraction of runways are equipped with ILS (Instrument Landing Systems), and those typically are only capable of guiding the plane to decision height, not actually landing it. :joker-laden:

Autoland that works at any airport is actually a thing now but it is not a mature technology. It is still an emergency thing for if the pilot has a seizure or something and can't fly, so you press the button to not crash and die.

        be me

        on short final to land

        "minimums"

        can't see shit, go-around, go-around

"I'm sorry sir, the company will not tolerate the extra fuel expense. We're landing"

        TOGA power set, nothing happens

        plane lands itself

shit, turns out there was another plane on the runway

collide and burst into flames, skidding off the runway, killing everyone on board
