I'm trying to quit Twitter. What are some cool websites that you guys like (other than Hexbear.net)?
Mastodon is genuinely super cool. I was never a bird site user but I quite like Mastodon. You gotta find a server that works for you. I'm on urbanists.social, which is run by a communist.
Oh yeah, that's a very good one. The nice thing is I interact with it all the time thanks to federation.
A wise Hexbear once said to me "ideally the number of social media platforms you use should be going down."
Simple advice but I think that's a good way to think about it - every time I think about joining or interacting with a new format that quote comes up again in my head. Give up Twitter and replace it with interacting with human beings, or reading books, or appreciating art, or exercising, or baking bread, or gardening, or building revolution.

I visit hackaday.com/blog once in a while. The commenters are your standard tech bros for the most part, but the DIY projects this website showcases are usually pretty cool.

I know that's still Hexbear, but it's good.
mastodon's decent, it has a very different culture to twitter though. i think people overuse its CW feature, but i don't mind it that much
