This is how rainbow imperialism works. They act like they are the good guys, liberating the queers. Gullible people take them at their word and help them. They use them and throw them away, leading them to die.
The Stasi termed this the "political misuse of homosexuals" and it perfectly encapsulates how the West exploits the marginalized status of queer people to blackmail them and then weaponize them against their own societies. The Stasi seemingly fully understood this risk, which is what prompted them to suggest to the SED that they give queer people rights, almost entirely ending the threat of blackmail. I just dearly wish that the rest of the world would learn the lessons already learned by other states in their struggles against the West.
A couple pictures of a rainbow flag or soldiers kissing is all it takes to convince the libs that the side trying to exterminate the other are actually the good guys.
Remember this. They'll have a similar, yet equally flimsy excuse to do the same shit to us when shit hits the fan and the treat machine breaks down...in case the very consistent historical track record of social democrats wasn't enough to convince you already.
This, in turn, fuels reactionary elements in all of their neighbors and especially in Palestine because being queer is seen as being synonymous with being a dangerous Israeli/West asset and traitor. Then that reaction just makes it easier for Israel to exploit and manipulate queer people.
It's a cynical political tool, always has been. Fascists love weaponizing it against libs because they're incapable of countering it.
