Material interest causes it. The wealthy first worlder benefits from imperialist exploitation of other countries.

The inherent impulse to pro-social behavior in children is beat out of them by class society usually around middle school or high school. Libs just say that teenagers are weird and moody until they accept the wage labor status quo and become normal adults.

If you somehow become aware of how shit everything is, there's like two realistic options out there. Either you think "wow, this is terrible, I hate that I must contribute to this" and become a leftist or you go "well I'm still feeling fine so that must mean it's good actually".

The first option comes with a sort of lifelong rage and misery and the second comes with bliss. It's an uphill battle.

I think to some extent it is true that a lot of our primitive hunter gatherer/small community instincts remain and are often exploited.

They can say shit like this because they don't have to live with these homeless poor people, they don't have to share the suffering or even see them suffering. In the old primitive days this wouldn't be the case. If you inflicted pain and suffering on others then most likely everyone close to you were there to see or feel it happening.

So while I believe everyone has basic empathy, the social structure we live in makes it harder to care about others. We are too distant and it is too easy to look away and ignore the suffering.

Modern post agriculture society is 10k years old, we lived and evolved as hunter gatherers for 100x as long. It means we need to build society in a certain away i.e avoid alienation, emphasize human contact as much as possible to force people to feel empathy.

Well that and they'll get their perfectly aligned teeth kicked in if they say this shit in front of homeless people. This is one of the reasons why online discourse is so hostile. In real life, you have to be above a weight class and above a certain size before you can start bullying people while online, any weeny or dweeb can be a bully.
