I hope this spreads to the rest of the U.K., and includes election pledges that aren’t followed through with for good reason. Honestly, this should be centuries old.

Good take. I'll make an exception to the standard Hexbear line of "everything politicians do is bad" and say this is a positive development that should be welcomed

That just sounds like more complicated direct democracy

Why not just have direct votes on every issue at that point? (I support this btw for a lot of issues. Like if we just had a national vote for abortion it would be legal immediately. If we voted for cutting all funding to Israel it would also pass immediately. Expanding social services, etc. Which is why of course it will never be allowed under current formation of the government)

I like this idea the most. But the press will just sway opinion, like Brexit. Not being awkward, but that’s what I think.

          I mean maybe

But the media pretends abortion is a 50/50 issue in the US or that Israel is overwhelmingly supported by all Americans. With abortion it's more like 70/30 in favor and Israel is maybe 50/50 total population-wise, heavily against with young people, but ultimately it's not like 80% support as the media would like us to believe. So, the propaganda has an effect, no doubt, but even that has limits. A lot of people are able to see through bullshit in the end

I’m cynical. It’s alright in these scenarios, but I wouldn’t like to find out in alternative scenarios…

That's why I think overall a centralized form of governance is best, but it's one of those things the people must have the ability to always keep in check. Having a central committee that decides things and hands down orders is great from a getting shit done perspective. It can go bad though of course. Mao had some ideas on how to handle that. No system is ever perfect though and probably the best way to keep things always going a positive direction is education of the masses and trying to stamp out all remaining tendencies towards reactionary and capitalist mindset in ways that don't breed more resentments over time.

They're just going to outsource their lying to quack scientists

"I wasn't lying! I was just repeating what I heard from this totally trust worthy scientist here!" (said scientist being propped up by several right wing think tanks to talk about a topic not even tangentially related to their field)
