If the feeling is genuine I'd add a "I missed you" somewhere in there. Or maybe do that after they reply positively.

My friend group is pretty scattered these days but we keep it afloat with blunt statements like "I miss you" or "I love you" just to remind each other of the genuine affection we have for each other
