CW for transphobia & bodyshaming

Looks like lobster boy's wacky antics are catching up with him! As an aside, I like how one of the complaints is that he talks about things which are outside of his area of expertise, with the Guardian reporting that scientists criticised his "word salad of nonsense" about climate change on the Joe Rogan podcast.

How people didn't pick up on this sooner, I'm not sure. He did the exact same thing in that Cathy Newman interview on C4 years ago when he brought up the lobsters, and he only got more popular after that. How has he not already been dismissed?

He has since deleted the document, and the screenshots from this twitter thread are all that remain.

He says exactly what power wants to hear, in the way power wants it to be said. He's the fake respectability of three piece suits backed by institutional violence that makes boomer editors in chief feel safe from the nagging fear that the victims of the crimes they are complicit in may one day come for them.

I unfortunately read the replies. Lots of "I don't see anything wrong here. He said nothing wrong."

yeah ok you're not a certifying board of Canadian psychologists, they're the ones who set the standards for who gets to be a therapist. I know reactionaries just spew gibberish most of the time, but they really don't understand nor believe in expertise. They're really upset with the idea of eggheads setting guidelines or telling everyone what's real. They don't want to believe that a group of Peterson's peers can decide who's qualified to do certain things. Peterson isn't even being censored, he was told to submit himself for review and take some classes, right? No one has an intrinsic right to be a therapist if they're saying unethical things. In fact why do these reactionaries care? Peterson hasn't even had a patient since 2017. It's like that time Bill Clinton got suspended from practicing law, even though he was already president. It doesn't matter. Peterson lives off speaking fees and Daily Wire money now.

Doctors like Peterson are why I’m not going back to therapy. He’s not the only one like this by any means, he’s just the most famous.

Most therapists get no pushback whatsoever for their entire careers because the patient they’re talking to is the only one subjected to their harmful bullshit at a time, and who’s gonna believe that one person? I mean, they are in mental health treatment after all… right?

I just wanna throw it out there; theres nothing wrong with not going back to therapy. Empirically, from studies, its as effective as having a friend group or going to a confessional. Its buying "unalienated" connections.

Look for younger ones there’s lots of good ones out there.

My friend saw 5 therapists before he found a good one. And that one has changed for life for the better in amazing ways

BTW this is a serious problem in countries that place psychological / psychiatric gatekeeping before gender affirming care. In my country, i need to see a psychologist or psychiatrist if i want to access any trans healthcare. I made sure to look up lists published by LGBT orgs to find an experienced, trans inclusive therapist who operates on the "informed consent" model and gave me a referral to an endocrinologist after just making sure i knew what i was up to and really wanted this, which is really all that's needed for this. But others are not that lucky. "Trans specialist" doesn't always equal trans inclusive because nobody overseeing the field is doing the right thing, which is revoking the licenses of reactionary weirdos like Jordan Peterson. So baby trans who are still figuring themselves out may end up with some transphobe who constantly questions their identity, asks highly invasive and inappropriate questions, still uses outdated and sexist rating systems like the Benjamin scale and may still refuse to give them HRT after a year or two. Trans patients will also be much less able to just walk out of that practice and say "fuck it" when our entire treatment depends on it and switching therapists means additional months on a waiting list. If you've got a transphobe at hand, getting the hell out of there is absolutely needed, both to get quicker access to healthcare and to save your own mental health, but many questioning people do not have that kind of knowledge and try to sit things out while they're traumatized over and over again.

So i absolutely hope he gets his license revoked even if its largely a symbolic act. If you're seeing a therapist you are by definition in a vulnerable position and need somebody you can trust and confide in, and a lot of people, not just trans people, are hurt by doctors who get in the field mostly because they are manipulative and enjoy to have power over others. Banning the prime example for that kind of medicalized abuser sets a precedent, even if it's just in Canada where trans healthcare is miles ahead of almost all other places in the world. Doctors like this are doing stuff that's nothing but low-key, secularized conversion "therapy" and they need to be stopped.

:up-yours-woke-moralists: losing his doctor's liscence would be hilarious ngl.

It won't happen and even if it did people would say "he's being censored for saying the truth" but it would be funny nonetheless.

I feel like this sums Peterson up well. We know what he meant, but if you accused him of calling you a prick, he'd say "that's not what I said at all" and his followers would say that he owned you

He was protected by tenure 4 years ago. Tenure he promptly lost because he refused to do even the special unique snowflake bare minimum they authorized for him that’s required to keep your professorship.

Jesus christ, I didn't know about that tweet about child services. I've been studying to become a social worker in Ontario and you can get into a shitload of trouble if you don't contact child services when there's reason to be concerned. God I wish Peterson would just fuck off.

I love right-wingers. They say "I fucked up! I have evidence to prove it!" And then they get madder and madder and madder. Sometimes they make things (much) worse for themselves.

On an average day I have no idea how much he tweets but he's been active the past ~2 hours and I assume it's even noon where he is. Toronto? Maybe he has a whole day of ranting to come.

    Is a meltdown speedrun imminent?

    Edit

I learned he's not posting a lot so far. I still have hope but he'll have to up his posting game by a factor of ~10.

He states in one of the mails in the OP that he employs a social media team. He does not do all that posting himself.

He also mentioned that he works with "close family members", which means his daughter is part of this as well.
