Post your ideas, requests and suggestions here to be considered.
More mods may be needed, but we'll see how it goes for now. Behave yourselves and moderate each other so we can get this place started well.
Episode discussion threads like r/anime has seem like they would be a good thing to have once everything is sorted out
The community is still pretty small, we could start with a weekly megathread for new episodes.
This is definitely something I think we can do. They will need to be manually posted to begin with however as the bot api for Lemmy isn't done yet. I can probably get into a rhythm for posting the popular/core shows.
Once we've established the initial community here and encouraged people to subscribe it might also be interesting to poll people on what they're currently watching, it will help inform decision-making and what direction to go. I suspect there are some different viewing habits among leftists to the usual audience.
Organize watching parties of democratically elected anime using Cytube + discussion thread for the anime selected for that month/week.
Cytube's got some serious problems for using in large groups unfortunately. I've tried it before in a 4k population community I run on discord and it's an absolutely nightmare.
I actually have a custom solution that might be useful but don't know how quickly we'd start hitting peak numbers and causing the bandwidth to fall over.
If you could get me a season two of Nichijou, that would be great.
I will accept nothing less from you, c/anime. Make me proud.
If I could get you a season two of Nichijou I would do so in a heartbeat.
Trying to think about what I hate about /r/anime besides the users and like I guess
We shouldn't totally exclude posts about shows and animations that are clearly anime-inspired if for no other reason than to avoid arguments over the definition of anime. I'm not arguing for tolerating Avatar shitposts lol - my reasoning for this comes from the Shelter debacle from /r/anime. Got banned along with others for posting it on release because the mods decided it didn't fit the scope of their sub. Caused a huge fuss over nothing.
I agree. It's nonsense behaviour over something that doesn't matter at all.
If anyone calls for that kind of thing please berate them.
We could do nightly or seminightly rewatches of classic shows. We could use Discord to have live viewings and have discussion threads for long form discussion.
Gacha game and vtuber threads since I know those are huge in anime communities
Do you guys think manga discussion has a place here, or should we request a separate community for it? It's kind of in the same general area as anime, but not everyone who watches anime reads manga, and vice versa, so I don't know if it would be too tangential for this community. Is manga even that popular here? I know I prefer it to anime, but I'm not sure about everyone else.
Good question. I feel like while the site remains small it's probably not viable as a community by itself, but would be later. I'm not sure of the best way to make allowances for it in this comm though. Something to think about!
