The guns are never going to go anywhere because they're key to how the GOP understands the hierarchies of power. Having shitloads of guns is fundamentally tied in to the maintenance and expansion of white supremacy for them. The Democrats are perfectly happy to let the police enforce white supremacy without getting their hands dirty but the GOP views it as a hands-on process that they need to be prepared to get involved in at any time, hence the guns.
