      I mean, maybe it looks gross, but it's famous for its incredibly rich and buttery taste when it's cooked properly. A5 wagyu typically sells for $250-$400.

        Ironically, I've consistently heard that wagyu is either just mediocre or downright awful, even when prepared properly by a chef. Its reputation seems to be entirely a result of its price making it a symbol of decadence to bourgeois ghouls. It's like how expensive wine is entirely defined by its pricetag and is otherwise materially indistinguishable from cheap wine.

            I've only had caviar once, and it was just sort of unpleasant and mediocre. It's just salty, vaguely fish-flavored jelly, less offensive tasting than fish (I don't like seafood) but without any redeeming qualities or purpose to it. I cannot imagine a single person would choose to eat it except out of desperation were it not for the bizarre status symbol aspect.

        I've had it. Why would you want "buttery"? That's not what steak tastes like. Just eat a stick of butter for fuck's sake.

        Steak is supposed to be meaty and taste like steak. This wagyu crap is just "popular" because it's expensive and no other reason.

          You could just slather some beef tallow on a supermarket strip steak and it would probably taste nearly identical. There's no magic involved that could justify the price tag, this is just Monster brand HDMI cables for self-proclaimed foodies.
