“should have killed more” is a meme but it makes me curious how many instances of restraint shown by the Soviets (from the civil war to the second world war) were born from genuine naïveté that it wouldn’t just be overlooked by copious amounts of propaganda.
I know several Romanians and all of them say that they were no fan of the leadership but the basic system was far, far better.
