That's cool and I know a few people who would probably get a lot out of this. Plus I'm interested in the Vietnamese view of it too. I might wait for the Ebook though as non-US international shipping will take ages and be pricey.

i can't help much but i do know that a lot of regions bordering china have some significant historical baggage with it, due to it being the regional superpower for like a few thousand years

Speculation here but Vietnam may see China as more of a betrayal and that Vietnamese perspective may not be leftist. I doubt anyone who instead antixommunist would say China did more damage but it may be easier to tske personally. This is based on vague memories of readings I've done where this was on the periphery and just my own putting together, so I'm barely a source here.

China invaded Vietnam because Vietnam stopped a mad man from killing Cambodians any further (China backed Pol Pot). It was highly unlikely that Vietnam was going to exert any influence on anyone because for the most part, they just wanted to be left alone even if they were pro USSR

Nowadays many Vietnamese just dislike China because of the water conflict, although the two countries have expressed that they want to settle it diplomatically and without the interference of outside nations. China also does a lot of business in Vietnam and generally when outsiders have a lot of economic pull in your country, people tend to become upset
