Separately, I was vaguely aware that private corporal punishment is still allowed in some places, but holy shit, I didn't realize it's legal in all but two states: Iowa and New Jersey, the latter since 1867 which is pretty wild. Wonder what the story is there.
Back in the 1800s and 1900s, parents would kill teachers at school for hitting their kids. No doubt they hit their kids at home, but imagine that same response to school staff hitting your children in modern times
