Disney approached Cameron about doing sequels and he told them he wasn't going to do it piecemeal and have Disney cancel the series if one of the sequels did bad. He wanted $2B upfront for 4 more movies and for all the filming to be done at once, and Disney gave it to him. Avatar 2's box office according to google is $2.3B, so they already likely made back the costs of the 4 sequels, meaning the box office on the next 3 are pure profit.

people say karl marx did not foresee the iphone. what he didn't foresee was james cameron, the last filmmaker.

Pacing is a bourgeois lie meant to constrain the minds of the proletariat. They profit off showing us quick 30 second bites of content while putting ads in between them, so they cannot stand the idea of Big Jim giving the proletariat 9 hours of masterful artwork to inspire their souls.

Ok ok a 3.5 hour cut means a lot of leeway was given for different potential aspects of the story. 9 hours is on purpose lmao

Great here comes the inevitable crowd saying that a movie can't or shouldn't be 9 hours long. I compel anyone who thinks that to watch Masaki Kobayashi's 9 1/2 hour The Human Condition (Ningen no Joken). One of the finest anti war films I've ever seem, and one of the greatest movies I've seen period. Being a socialist in Japan during WW2 had to have been so unbelievably fucked

To the various butthurt members of said crowd, the film is in 3 parts of 3 to 3 and a half hours, each split in half with an intermission. Watch them as a series of movies, if you can watch a TV show this is an easy one. Some of these replies read like they were written by r/marvel users

a "movie" cannot be 9+ hours long. i'm sorry if names mean anything a project that literally cannot be seen uninterrupted in a business day at a theater is not a movie. its some kind of series. no-body has a problem with series existing, but its pure pretension to act like this or that series is a film but other ones are a somehow lower form. so sorry you couldn't leave enough on the cutting room floor & have to grouped in with TV people, cry me a river

0 fucking chance I'm ever watching a film that's 9.5 hours long. this is one of the most pretentious things I've read in my life

        Absolute 👶🧠

Do you object to TV shows as well? Your comment is the epitome of pretension, you're acting like a redditor

have you actually forgotten that films are shown in movie theaters and are watched in one sitting? or are you just a dumb condescending prick?

They literally do festivals in Japan for it where they show it in ONE FULL SITTING, if that's gonna be your technicality to die by. I recommend a really great work of art because I figure people here will enjoy it and you have been acting like a massive prick from the first response. Fuck off and touch grass.

Avatar haters are confined within the prison of their minds. They will never see the light of Eywa so long as they squeeze their eyes shut and deny her truth.

THE WAY OF WATER HAS NO BEGINNING AND NO END. THE SEA IS AROUND YOU AND IN YOU. THE SEA IS YOUR HOME, BEFORE YOUR BIRTH AND AFTER YOUR DEATH. OUR HEARTS BEAT IN THE WOMB OF THE WORLD. OUR BREATH BURNS IN THE SHADOWS OF THE DEEP. THE SEA GIVES AND THE SEA TAKES. WATER CONNECTS ALL THINGS, LIFE TO DEATH, DARKNESS TO LIGHT!

There's a guy in my city that has his truck plastered in Avatar art, pretty sure he's also covered in Avatar tattoos. He'll be pretty psyched.

Also if be lying if I said I wouldn't watch a 9 hour cut of Avatar 3

Would that be a 9-hour cut of Avatar 3, or a 9-hour cut of the entire Avatar 2 & 3 filming project? The first seems a bit much, but the second makes sense.

More reason to not watch any more Avatar stuff, good.

Also lmao love to have a "limited series", which I assume means it will eventually go away, on my streaming platform.

Can you imagine how many ads in russian they can splice into a 9 hour Avatar film? This is a new form of art we've barely just scratched the surface of!
