It'd be neat if they had anything substantive to say about the games, but video game essays are mostly breathless hagiographies about how the game is good and you have good taste for liking it.
Idk it can be nice to have a piece of work you enjoy dissected in a positive light. I do the same shit with my friends when we find a book we all enjoy, or movie, why not games? In depth analysis doesn't have to be critique
i like them because angry ranty man and also it's sometimes better to watch a summary of a game getting played for 10-20 minutes than to be 4 hours into a game and still trying to figure out what mushrooms do
I will be on TikTok the moment people start posting 50+ minute long reviews and video essays about 20 year old video games there
