I hate this country :lenin-rage: :rage-cry: :NOOOOO:
itt: boomer-brains hating on the most predominantly zoomer social media app out of ignorance and sheer spite :very-smart:
Not gonna lie, it really is fucking pathetic how many aging millenials on this site are stuck in the past. Like people have moved on from 90s Simpsons and early 2000s era ebaumsworld comedy, or whatever the fuck. We get it, you thought the dark knight was "sick" when it came out. Yeah you like the "old Kanye" and that "classic 50 cent and Eminem rap." Yeah we get it, Sega Genesis or N64 was the "bEsT cOnSoLe EVER L33t!!!" Yes we know that "FINAL FANTASY 7 IS THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME!!!" Oh and don't forget: "I remember when it was called 'The' Facebook you dumb zoomers!"
If it weren't for the leftist ideas they were exposed to, I 100% believe they would become reactionary chuds. In fact I suspect there is a slight reactionary element in them because they just can't get with the times. They'll push back and say "hurr durr why should I care about shitty zoomer shit" even though that's literally exactly what their parents said to the stuff they cared about. That being said there are some that realize that they are getting out of touch and are going out of their way to let others claim their own future.

bad take people shouldn't be shamed for prefering the pop culture that they watched as a kid. It's harmless and could not matter less
also it'll happen to you
also it’ll happen to you
Joke's on you. I am a millennial. It's my own generation that I see falling for this nostalgia bullshit. I made a post about a while back: https://hexbear.net/post/247679. TL;DR nostalgia brain is often the first step into reactionary/fascist tendencies from what I've observed (e.g. "things were better back in my day sonny boy!")
100gecs isn't music but I fully support the revolution :100-com: gecs
Yeah I saw that post and disagreed with it then. For young people to have their cultural space we need to not inject ourselves into the content made for and by them.
I am less familiar with the cartoons and movies aimed at young people because I have less free time available to watch cartoons and movies now and that's OK not everything needs to be for you. I'm more familiar with the music I grew up with than whatever now occupies the cultural niche the Jonas brothers used to fill and that's fine because that's just not music made for me as the target audience
Top comment by HoChiMaxhhe still relevant
This is the second meta-post today about something that is like barely a thing here
I mean not to knock on HoChiMax, but he was denying that young men needing dating advice was a thing, until he realized he was wrong and made a post about how he is a well-adjusted, fit guy with a healthy partnership, family, and friend circle (I can't search far enough back for his post cuz of the 1 month limit on this site). So if he says something is "barely a thing" then I tend not to agree with him.
I don't think it's the "enjoying things from when you were young" part that's the problem, it's the "and that's why everything that the next generations like suck" part.
Yeah that is out of order. Part of getting older sensibly is realising that music for teenagers, is no longer for you and that star wars and superhero media being childrens movies if you as an adult see them and don't like them it's not a big deal.
Grown adults complaining about not liking the latest star wars films is like complaining that now your 30 you don't find peppa pig as entertaining as you did when you were 3
early 2000s era ebaumsworld comedy
And yet we don't have an "all your base" emoji, curious!
I will be on TikTok the moment people start posting 50+ minute long reviews and video essays about 20 year old video games there
He'll never be part of the Goth Gamer Nation :farquaad-point:
In all seriousness, it's just the perfect kind of fluff to put on when you've run out of pods :chefs-kiss:
It'd be neat if they had anything substantive to say about the games, but video game essays are mostly breathless hagiographies about how the game is good and you have good taste for liking it.
Idk it can be nice to have a piece of work you enjoy dissected in a positive light. I do the same shit with my friends when we find a book we all enjoy, or movie, why not games? In depth analysis doesn't have to be critique
i like them because angry ranty man and also it's sometimes better to watch a summary of a game getting played for 10-20 minutes than to be 4 hours into a game and still trying to figure out what mushrooms do
I actually think things overall are getting shittier, but I also notice a tendency of people to not deal with the present and retreat into the comfort of their childhoods. That's mainly what I'm against. People who don't wanna deal with reality and retreat into nostalgia.
If it weren’t for the leftist ideas they were exposed to I 100% believe they would become reactionary chuds
if it weren't for the thing that separates leftists from chuds, the leftists would be chuds! :thinking-about-it:
Yeah, insofar as nostalgia and those prone to a rose-tinted view of the past can lead to reactionary tendencies. See this post: https://hexbear.net/post/247679
:think-mark: if you weren't nostalgic and didn't read leftist theory you still wouldn't be leftist lol.
but you're mistaken to think nostalgia is blanket reactionary. some things were better in the past. my auntie waxing nostalgic about public transit infrastructure we don't have anymore isn't reactionary.
some things were better in the past. my auntie waxing nostalgic about public transit infrastructure we don’t have anymore isn’t reactionary.
Yeah I mean we all pine for the glory days of the USSR, but that's not the stuff I'm talking about.
My brain is just not ADHD enough for TikTok, and that's saying something.
Not gonna lie, it really is fucking pathetic how many aging millenials on this site are stuck in the past.
just because they don't like le doomless dance video scroll app? I'm not sure this is really reacting to something happening on this website.
I’m not sure this is really reacting to something happening on this website.
It is, I made a post about it before: https://hexbear.net/post/247679
that's just a second post claiming "bro trust me it's totally happening" but is mostly contentless. it's hard to extract a coherent and principled message beyond "why old people not watch children's cartoons like me".
I mean I could go through every comment and thread on this site and compile the times that references that only millenials know are mentioned and compare it to references that other gens would know. And my hunch is that there would definitely be a greater percentage of millennial references. You saying that "it's not a thing" is also a "trust me it's NOT happening thing" so I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish.
Edit: LMAO ageist loser with absolutely no point tucks tail and “disengages”
:cringe: bad form. You have no idea how old I am and are mocking my attempt to disengage. Whatevever I guess, I'm done with this.
mostly not a problem.
That's just you dismissing a legitimate view. I think it's time to disengage.
imagine being this mad that you can't have your daily toks smdh.
Actually I've never had or used tiktok, but I'm not gonna shit on zoomers for enjoying it, unlike a lot of people on this site.
Hey I'm a 30-something boomer and I get the importance of the tiktoks even if I don't like it's content
Generations are socially constructed but are a useful shorthand to talk about economic and social changes that take place over a longer period of time. The zoomer experience of amerika is different from the millennial one (and the transition is the cuspers). Generations Wars are liberal bs but it’s a fact that tiktok is more zoomer and Facebook is more Gen X and Boomer.
Generations only aren't real when it's something he doesn't care about. If it is something he cares about, then all of a sudden they'll become "real"
I think all social media is bad and should be banned, from boomer to zoomer
That said, I do think it’s bullshit for the US to focus on a Chinese company when there’s so many shitty domestic ones they have direct jurisdiction over. They are just bullying TikTok US into selling at a loss, it’s just blatant theft. All the concern trolling over Chinese spying is laughable when they have the FBI department at Facebook, and they can actually execute and arrest you
Wouldn't that include this website, too? Social media can be terrible for you, but it can be enjoyable if you engage with it responsibly.
We will all touch grass together until the morale improves
yeah they do, 90% of mobile games are farmville clones, often with added combat mini games and random aesthetics like zombies or mafia.
Honestly the US banning tiktok would probably do more to radicalise young people than any content on tiktok ever could
If they ban our TikToks let us take over their Facebooks and twitters and make them our new TikToks.
No they’re not lol.
But, it would be very funny if they somehow 5D maneuver this.
Sell the app to the American for like $3 billion, but sneakily include a clause that says China gets to keep all accounts and algorithms.
The Americans get a skeleton app that has to be rebuilt from the ground up, and by the time they realize that China releases another app called TokTik with the the original accounts and algorithms reinstated
I hope they don’t. I love my fyp. It’s taken a long time to curate and I don’t wanna spend a week downloading all my saved vids.
yeah on one hand it can be slightly addictive for me and is probably destroying my dopamine receptors but on the other hand my fyp is perfect and i have way too many semi-important saved videos
They will, Facebook has been lobbying for it. Over before it started
The few clips i watched about the hearing has shown me that its necesary to have a ban on people over 70 years old from holding goberment jobs
also one of the dinosaurs was constantly calling the ceo a cpc agent like he didnt said he was from Singapur at the start
Bread is expensive
So of course let's get rid of the circuses also
You see, china’s great firewall is bad, but the Anglo great firewall is gonna be great folks.
I was reading some Marx earlier and he literally pointed this out about some amerikan economist back in his day who tried to claim protectionism was cool. It was in the collected works somewhere.
I hate tiktok but this law is just a vessel for sinophobia
100%. If TikTok was straight out of silicon valley they'd have a DoD contract by now.
The whole hearing was just them being smug about asking a Chinese guy if any Chinese guys worked at his company
He straight up had to remind them he's not Chinese but Singaporean.
Our beautiful poster is back! :trump-death-note:
:geordi-no: tiktok ban
:geordi-yes: "social media" ban and nationalize youtube
We should be flooding tiktok with "how to bypass the tiktok ban" videos.
This is an opportunity to teach the zoomer generation some techy shit that sits in the same realm of pirate behaviour. The kids that learn how to bypass the ban will also be the people that become the next generation of torrent supporters and pirates.
Yeah, definitely. But even then at most it’ll be a few million people using vpns and whatnot. The vast majority (~200 million) will not and that will be a major loss.
:this:
The only potential upside to this is some zoomers going feral and tearing politicians limb from limb
Extremely well put. It’s very saddening seeing millennials do the same thing that they complained about.
That congressional hearing was absolutely fucking pathetic.
And these people have the audacity to mock DPRK politics lmao.
Do the TikToks use the home internet or wifi?
Uh, yes.
ITS STEALING OUR DAYTA.
nobody has mentioned this so i will: getting rid of tik tok would be absolutely horrible for the music industry. tiktok in a way has allowed people to blow their music up more organically without the help of a label and without a label deciding who gets to have their music blow up (which has been happening in the past decade because of the internet in general but tiktok has made this 100x more efficient and easy)
i listen to a lot of underground soundcloud rap and huperpop and that whole scene would probably still be stuck at >1k followers everywhere else without tik tok
A lot of (internet) boomers take issue with the type of music that gets boosted via tiktok. It’s sad to see. I thought the millennials were our friends :bawllin-sad:
Great point, TikTok has been so good for making interesting or missed music blow up. Also annoying stuff but whatever that can be fun.
Pretty obvious they're banning it because it has leftist content and it's not controlled by google, amazon, facebook, twitter etc.
if the kids are exclusively using tik tok that means google/facebook can't make money selling their data
The lines can be divided between people who actually use tiktok (cool, good) and people who don’t (misguided, fed constant propaganda about how bad it is)
fed constant propaganda about how bad it is
oh yeah like how you can't fast forward some videos?
If you don’t see the progress bar at the bottom of the screen, you cannot fast-forward the video. This might be because the creator has changed their video permissions settings.
:so-true: I can't wait for youtube to copy more shitty UI features from le cool zoomer app
