Liberals believe that the mere act of protest is sufficient enough to take down the government. They want Russians to drag Putin out of the Kremlin and put a bullet in his head but they'll shit their pants if you suggest doing the same in the US, because we get to protest, and that's good enough. The Russian brain pan is too small to understand protest, so they must kill only, but we shouldn't kill because we are too advanced and can simply change the hearts of politicians if we shame them.

True. The same poll was done again almost 20 years later asking Americans if they supported the Iraq war at the time and the number dropped to about 50%

I don't even have an opinion on the war, it's just annoying so many people are dehumanizing my ethnicity so brazenly

Have you ever brought this up to people who say this sort of thing? I can understand why you wouldn't, but I'm morbidly curious whether they'd start backpedaling or double down.

Interesting how Russia is simultaneously a brutal anti-democratic dictatorship and yet the people are responsible for the war :thonk:

"Every oppressed person wants to be like us. Except Russians, they are just inherently evil from the first caveman to the most recent newborn in a Moscow hospital"

Okay, maybe I'm putting too much focus on what Redditors say, but God, seeing how many people are comfortable just openly saying and agreeing with this shit is horrifying. I know it's probably reactionary and anti-materialist, but it's easy to start feeling like most of the people around you are literal demons.

I think feeling like most people around you in the West are literal demons IS the materialist option

A friend I've known for 15 years was spouting basically the same shit to me last night, except he went as far back as basically saying "everyone since Nicholas 2 was a bloodthirsty tyrant." Not those exact words, but very close, just more crass. The implication was "its in Russians nature" :hasan-ok-dude:

I informed him that that was, in fact, racist. I was met with a laugh emoji, and a paragraph about how "Russian isn't a race, it's a nationality."

I told them to go back to their phrenology charts, and that they are no longer coming to my wedding, and their phone number is now blocked.

Idk why I'm posting this here, i guess I'm just looking for validation that I did the right thing. I know I did, but just wish it didn't happen :yea:

Anyone wanna come to my wedding next summer? It appears a spot just opened up!

You'd resent their presence had you let them arrive to your wedding. You only severed a relationship that would have eroded over a few months or years. Any grief you feel is that sense of misplaced effort and regret that it didn't appear sooner.

Ultimately, who gives a shit about a bigot? Especially when you're about to embark on a journey of happiness with your loved one.

I banned a guy I was ostensibly friends with for over a decade last minute from my wedding. It was a long time coming and probably happened too late for me to feel any kind of good about it but I want to say good on you.

It's really easy to ignore your convictions because of your history with someone. You did the right thing regardless of whether others agree

These people just externalize evil into their preexisting prejudices and targets. Russia and China are the only states that can assert independence and autonomy against the US and the West.

The cracks in the idol are getting more profound and deep, and the only way to banish the fear is by externalizing and defeating it.

It's not really about China or Russia. It's about pushing away the catharsis that social introspection and personal self-reflection bring. The realization that we are dependent on alienation, misery, and social cannibalism to sustain our social anaesthesia AKA "treats".

This bigotry is akin to using drugs to mask an autoimmune disease.
