Spoiler alert, but at the end, the titular mother gives birth and her baby is immediately grabbed by a crowd, and in the commotion, the baby's neck gets snapped (it makes SLIGHTLY more sense in context). Her husband's reaction is to immediately tell her what happened is horrible, but that she must now forgive them.
All while the baby's body is still warm.
IDK. Think about that scene a lot when people say politicians can evolve/change from positions they vigorously championed within the last decade or two (some of which may have involved literal baby killing)
Isn't the crowd also the father's worshipers basically? Like he is an author and those are his superfans. I dunno, I felt like this movie was kind of all over the place with its themes at times lol but I'm glad you got something out of it
It's been a bit so my memory of the plot is fuzzy but to my knowledge it's all biblical allusions, the husband is god, the mother is the earth, the baby is jesus. The earth gets destroyed by humans Jesus dies for their sins and the earth is reborn to presumably get fucked up by people again. Some climate change stuff too I guess.
