:michael-laugh: i forget who said it, but someone pointed out that the real misogyny that amy schumer faces is that she's not allowed to just be a mediocre comedian that no one really thinks is funny and disregards, like so many mediocre male comedians are. Thats the real male comedian privilege, the right to be mediocre

They can be even worse than mediocre if their gimmick is seeking clapter from chuds. :frothingfash:

amy schumer rocks. i don't care that she isn't funny. she's cool as hell. i think it's fine to be a comedian and wildly successful and suck ass at your craft. she's not even in the bottom half of successful comedians honestly.

The critical difference between Amy Schumer and some shit tier male comedian like Chris D'Elia (setting aside the grooming) is that Amy seems to actually recognize what funny is despite being pretty unreliable at actually BEING funny herself

the real hot take is i feel the same way about Lena Dunham, except Lena Dunham quite often IS funny in a way that i cannot describe very well

I’m more concerned about the joke theft than her actual standup performances. A lot of the complaints about her are just “women cannot be funny” tier takes. But the joke theft stuff is pretty blatant sometimes.

see, that's how you know i'm not a comedian, because i know they get really heated about that, and understandably so, but it doesn't affect me at all so i'm fine with it

It’s a weird disconnect that so many people on the left don’t pull out the “intellectual property is theft” arguments when we’re talking about workers’ art being used to train AI and put them out of work. But there are smaller comedians who have put hours and hours of work into perfecting the delivery of a punchline, only to have that punchline stolen and to then almost lose their careers because people heard it from the more popular person first. In any social context, we understand that lying to people’s faces and taking credit for someone else’s work is weird shitty behavior. But I guess people aren’t familiar with how standup is generally created.

Is it just me or does this unwillingness for older dems to retire/die is likely from a fear of the party being subverted by younger less ghoulish members into doing anything remotely progressive?

      younger less ghoulish members

Aren't there like maybe three of those in the entire country?

Then again, fear is often irrational.

We see how hard the Dem leadership goes against their “progressive” caucus. The only fear the bourgeoisie have is a constructed anxiety about losing their wealth. The owning class has a total persecution fetish just like Christian nationalists and white nationalists do.

I view it as libs and dems have a distorted view of how present leftism actually is in governance and how they've completely infected the political process with neoliberalization at every turn.

the difference between simply disliking amy schumer's humor or lack thereof and being a misogynist about it is, regular ol' amy schumer dislikers just don't seek out her content. Misogynists, as suggested in the OP, seek her humor out so they can feel smug about it. I don't think anybody's suggesting you must be a misogynist because you dislike her, only if you're hurrying off to social media to obsess over how much you dislike her.

This applies to so many more comedians. I know that that isn't a hot take here, and I think OP made a cool and good post, but I would just be remiss to not post that.

    Ignore me and carry on.

I just don't understand where people keep running into Amy Schumer such that her funniness or lack-there-of continues to be an issue. If you do not like Amy Schumer, why do you simply... stop watching the content she produces?
