The only acceptable versions are the pre Billy Bragg folk versions with impossible to sing lyrics sung by a person with a voice immune to tonality.
It's not a criticism, these versions slap. Give me a voice that sounds like they gargle a woodchipper and wash it down with hydrofluoric acid every morning
how is l'internationale viewed in china? Like do people see it as a revolutionary anthem or is it more sort of like how americans think of songs like this land is your land?

They try too hard to copy the Japanese IMO and they just don't have the hard edge you get from Visual Kei or similar.
I suspect the language also has something to do with it, like how darker metal genres are really suited to German and similar languages.
I hope so, as you say they're doing some really cool stuff, especially with integrating local musical traditions into modern genres.
