Saw it last night.
Verdict: Recommend. It’s a full throated endorsement of industrial sabotage as self-defense. It can be a bit hammy but it’s a good heist-style thriller.
I really enjoyed it. EXCELLENT propaganda. Gripping throughout, but didactic enough in some scenes that you're like, OK this is probably a chapter in the book. But the characters have their own PR goals within the film so it's kind of self aware. I left the theater with a huge grin on my face, wondering how the fuck this got financed and distributed beyond arthouse movie theaters.
Idk if anyone will really go out and blow up oil infrastructure because they watched the movie, but I bet that people who saw it will be happier when they see it in the news.
I am thinking of doing a double feature with that and Akira tonight at my local arthouse. You think it will be too heavy to put me in a mood before anime ?
edit: it was an awesome double feature, highly recommend.
HTBUAP is my fav movie so far this year. Not the most artistic direction, but great editing and sound design. didn't waste any time which i thought was nice. tbh it could have used a bit more suspense but overall did great.
akira is heavier. i left Pipeline with a huge grin on my face
Yeah it's definitely weird lol I'm expecting it to only be in theatres for one week - I booked a ticket yesterday and the theatre was mostly empty. Honestly if it wasn't for the Chapo ep I wouldn't have even thought to check if it was in real theatres I'd been periodically checking the indie theatres and would have just continued doing that
I found out about it before chapo but the only theater playing it near me was like 45 minutes away so I needed to find a good time to go
This movie does good Praxis because you can search up "How to blow up a pipeline" and not be flagged as a terrorist because you put "movie" after it.
God damn capitalism making me choose between this and Beau is Afraid.
The only good cinema here is like $50 for two tickets and popcorn. It's stupidly overpriced.
yeah that's stinky.
mine is like 16 a ticket, but I'm just gonna sneak in some snacks from the CVS next door like I always do.
I also have movies as part of my 'discretionary' budget cuz I never go out for food or drinks
Might go see it tonight. Maybe will even buy the blu ray if it comes out.
