          Yeah, I don't see it mentioned often that Manson got his cult-adjacent start in pimping, and that the structure of the "family" was largely centered around relatively normal organized crime methods

          IIRC, young girls were almost exclusively the demographic he "recruited" from, so to speak. They were the ones he'd really try to prey on the minds of, and then they served as combination members and sex slaves whatever the trafficked version of a sex worker is called

          Personally, I'd bet he just liked pseudo-profound riffing and got a high off of people hanging on his every shitty word. I mean, he probably believed a lot of the things he said, but I figure the primary purpose was to feed his ego and, in a cult-structure sense, provide an unbelievable element to performatively (or genuinely, but it'll break your mind) believe as a token of faith
