Yeah it's always funny to me when Hexbear goes a little Pol Pot, as a treat

I hold A U T O D I D A C T S in the same regard as typical homeschooler advocates. At best it’s idealistic and ignores the usual and likely bad outcomes, and it’s often much worse.

People who insist that they are smart are the absolute fucking worst. Ego is the death of intellect.

The thing about being an audodidact is that you can just stay in your comfort zone and never tackle anything beyond what you can easily handle. Contrast that to college where you absolutely have to learn new things and demonstrate your understanding of them to pass a course - a course you'll be taking with many other students, some of whom are almost certainly better prepared and more experienced than you. My first year of college was possibly the most humbling experience of my life because it showed me in no uncertain terms I that I didn't know shit.

Jesus... yeah nah anyone making those takes don't realize college sucks in the west because of capitalism and the reinforcement of reactionary ideology has clearly lost the script on how communism states are very much oriented around ensuring proper sources of education and growth for people via sources like universities.

well college should definitely be reformed as a system. Really the whole thing would be fixed if we just let anyone attend lectures and publically posted the times like events at community centres.

have people register to do exams if they want accreditation. The problem is the high barrier of entry and cost of study prohibits people exploring a subject. Really society would be so much better off if anyone could out of interest sit a college level course in any subject or module on a whim

The whole thing should be way more casual

self taught means taught by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. And in his case he learned by reading the works of a sci fi writer not an academic
