Erdogan has won the election with 52% of the vote, with a voter turnout of 85%, winning five more years as president.

Naked Capitalism's diagnosis of Kilicdaroglu's failure is that he had to somehow simultaneously keep pro-KPDP voters on board and also attract voters of nationalist candidates from the first round, and was unable to square that circle.

Erdogan's party has lost seats in the parliament as nationalist parties have outflanked him on refugee issues - and even Kilicdaroglu couldn't seem to move against that tide, as he called for the urgent expulsion of 10 million refugees. The Nationalist Movement Party is now at 10.4% in the parliament, a party with ties to the Grey Wolves. Far right parties got more than 30% of the parliamentary vote. The left was unable to capture enough voters who have suffered in the economic crisis, with inflation rates have sharply risen far above even Europe's, and these voters instead went down the "blame my problems on refugees" path.

As a silver lining to this shitstain, this does at least mean that any hopes by NATO that Turkey will move towards the West more are probably dashed. This isn't to say that Erdogan will scorn the West - far from it, in fact, he let Finland in to NATO and will probably let Sweden in - but the :both-sides: strategy will continue, for better and worse, and if you aren't with the West, then you are against them.

Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. I recommend their map more than the channel at this point, as an increasing subscriber count has greatly diminished their quality.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have decent analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources. Beware of chuddery.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the warzone.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist (but still quite reactionary in terms of gender and sexuality and race, so beware). If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ Another big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia's army.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

This isn't exactly news related but I feel like musing on it here.. Every single day that passes it feels like we get a larger and larger number of anti-tankie responses from new accounts in left subreddits I moderate. I am 99% sure these are some sort of op. They are almost always active in the Ukraine war subreddits or, oddly, /r/banpitbulls, and I don't know why I've noticed that pattern. That or they are brand new accounts. Or Vaushites but those aren't new or remarkable and they seem to be declining in number over time rather than increasing.

Like, 12 months ago I could make a post about einstein being a comrade and receive zero far right pushback. But several posts recently get bombed with these glowing comments, it's some of the least organic activity I've ever seen and I'm certain it's coming from either one or two groups doing targeted work.

Yeah but we've always banned them, along with banning any form of sectarianism. The numbers are increasing and the activity is not normal at all. These are UK spaces too so they kinda have significantly less brainworms than the US ones at a baseline level. Like, not without their issues by any means but they lack the red scare cultural history.

I think this is just another Qanon thing slowly festering and it won't get clamped down on until some NAFO guy tries to blow up a bridge in Norway because they only sent 120 million instead of unlimited funds to help Ukraine win the war. I really think that the mechanisms between people deciphering Qanon drops to figure out when 'The Storm' is coming and redditors looking at satellite images to say "Oh yeah based on the triangulation Ukraine is totally going to do their offensive and it'll be all over". Part of me wonders if this is just how these things fester and become popular movements being almost an ARG, or if this was done deliberately to get the 'maximum engagement'.

But yeah they'll become more and more unhinged and then some redditor is going to take a politician hostage or blow up a bridge or something dumb like that.

It's a real weird one but we get a shitload of people from there that I ban and I've been completely unable to stop noticing it. Something very squiffy is going on.

My only real theory on the reason for this is that animal breeding stuff is way of reinforcing in people's minds that behaviour can be a trait of someone's genetics/blood. I think they push the "dangerous dog breeds" stuff as a means of reinforcing the idea of breeding being a potential factor in humans.

I could be completely wrong about this theory but I'm certain that there's an op going on and it's all I've got to explain this weird pattern.

Yeah I've seen it here. This subreddit showing up in histories of anti-communists I regularly instaban is super new though. I think the "gateway drug to racism" is a good theory.

what's the kind of discourse you see in those pages? i'm used to normal everyday conversations, and down here there's a bit of a consensus about pitbulls. though its always rested on the sort of person who looks out to own one. ie, they want a violent dog and raise them accordingly.

i do own a pitbull. didn't actually go out to buy one, he was rescued from an abandoned house together with the mom and the rest of the litter. a firefighter asked us if we could take him in. our old dog had just died so we did. this dog is the dorkiest, laziest, most cowardly dog i've raised in 30 years. but i am aware of how the breed was created to have a certain bite behavior. i know that if something happens and he attacks another dog, that dog is toast and i'll get hurt if i try to break the fight. nevermind people. i don't want that sort of shit in my consciousness. so i act accordingly.

it's just that, i mean, you've banned pitbulls. congrats. do you honestly think breeders can't turn german shepherds into killing machines for sociopaths? we have a stereotype down here of fucker who owns a pitbull, raises them with violence, and walks them outside without collars. people are the problem.

In britain we only refer to one specific breed as a pitbull, the american pitbull. All the others under the "banner" are not pitbulls. Staffies are extremely common and well liked dogs here, in fact some of the friendliest dogs I've ever known were Staffies and some of the nastiest ones were Yorkshire Terriers.

In terms of discourse there's a crowd actively trying to get a whole group of dogs banned but largely people trust that we've already got the bad dogs banned and there's no issues with existing ones. There's fear of the specific american pitbull breed though, and mistaken identity of other similar looking breeds is not uncommon.

In Denmark American pitbull terriers and 12 other breeds of "muscle dogs" are banned. In addition to getting in trouble with the law, many public housing associations will evict tenants who own these "muscle dogs". Other pitbulls are legal.

pitbulls are used as a racist dogwhistle. probably overlap between pro-ukraine chuds and racist chuds.
