    Nomads in Inner Mongolia or Tibet were once stripped of their herds and forcibly moved to drab housing blocks in the name of modernity. Now they are subjected to “ecological migration”, ostensibly to save grasslands from their grazing animals.

    Love hand wringing like this while just across the border, Mongolia proper's grasslands have been decimated by cashmere goat herds that are totally unregulated. Coincidentally, this all happened almost immediately after the fall of the Mongolian communist government. :thinkin-lenin:
