I know multiple people that listen to it, I'm not personally interested but I want to understand what they're absorbing from it.
I know it's by Robert (Fed) Evans, but is much of an obvious fed influence?
EDIT: I just read a bunch of recent episode titles and based on the topics it's not obviously drenched in anti-communism so that's good.
Setting the politics aside Robert's banter and many of the guests are incredibly grating to say nothing of the glimpses into bleak hellscapes that are the ads for different iHeartRadio pods you get on adbreaks
All the pods I listen to are Patreon-supported so I don't generally interact with ad-supported corporate podcasting, and by god the pods that get plugged sound fucking awful
I also remember all the iHeartRadio Cuba Libre call to action segments that got aired during the attempted colour revolution a couple of years back :data-laughing: I'm sure Robert was fully onboard with the message
Anyway, the info presented can be interesting depending on the topic, but it's always offered with a side of shit in the form of bad jokes (GUYS RAYTHEON KNIFE MISSILE LOL), clueless annoying guests and shitty ads

Each new one astounds me more. Who greenlit that show, who told that person they have a voice for radio, who woke up that day and thought we need another podcast where two crackers named Stevemike review video games?
For me it's all the true crime pods and the "Join us as we interview successful rich people to hear their Stories and inspire you to Achieve Greatness" type pods
Many episodes are boilerplate "this dude was evil." Where it gets sticky is when the subject was a target of US aggression or propaganda. Then he shows his colors
Yeah, for the most part it's fine I guess until he gets into foreign conflicts that the U.S. was at least partially involved in. It Could Happen Here was like half Garrison and Christopher complaining about tankies when I stopped listening.
I followed Robert and Garrison during Portland 2020, but goddamn if that kid isn't the most online and adding them to the IHR crew only made It Could Happen Here more exhausting.
It seems like he spends a shit load of time on the :funny-clown-hammer: sub.
From memory the episode on the School of the Americas was good and they talked about the genocides inspired by the SotA. However it was also the bastard of the episode, so maybe that's why.
Yeah. He's good sometimes, he's bad other times. If you go in understanding his biases - sort of individualist psuedo-anarchist but drinks the state department coolaid more than he sould kind of thing - it can be entertaining, and a decent touch-off point for doing a bit more in depth reading on a subject.
Yeah, for something a similar vibe, I'd recommend The Dollop all day long over BTB. Much funnier, just as big catalog, and less of Robert's unimaginably pessimistic monologues.
My only beef with The Dollop is sometimes they keep doing the same bit and it's annoying. The live episodes are the best because, via audience feedback, they can hear which bits actually land. But it's a fun show.
Robert is just not as funny as these two witty comedians with great chemistry. I only listen to Behind the Bastards when he has someone great on or is on a topic I'm really into.
The concept is great but the execution lackluster even if you can look past the fed brainworms
If you don't already listen to it, just listen to Citations Needed instead
I think the Leftist Critiques get overdone. But I mostly can't stand it because its ad-supported content and I hate that shit. There are much better sources of history than some guy who includes plugs for dumb consumerist shit every 15 minutes.
Political whatever aside, it's just a worse version of The Dollop, which itself is a worse version of Eat The Rich (RIP)
It's basically The Dollop with a rotating cast of more hosts, and I'm not even disparaging Dave & Gareth when I say this but the hosts have even better chemistry between them, it's so fun. Here's one of the earlier episodes that got me hooked

No it ended sometime last year, seemed 100% amicable and they just felt like it was time for everyone to go do their own other stuff.

I have listened to a few and I found it entertaining but lack any real much critical thought. It's on the same level as "Last Week Tonight" or "Some More News" which I'd put on a C-tier, enjoyable and informative but lacks any meaningful or insightful critique.. There isn't much useful dialog with the guest, it's like a Dollop with some of the punch removed. Some of the Cracked dotcom humor bleeds through as well, which is usually good but can also go on for way too long, it's like 70% funny 30% grading.
I also find the adbreaks their transitions to be actively unfunny.
The "banter" is so fucking annoying, especially when they go on ad-breaks

I imagine most of it is alright. I've only listened to one episode (the one about Action Park) and I actually really enjoyed it. Good energy and minimal brainworms from memory. Obviously Mr. Fedvans has some sussier takes but I don't seek them out.
