As someone living in NZ, earthquakes can become familiar and normalized too for most people. A 4.6 isn't even worth getting out of bed for over here. That's not to minimise the damage they can cause though. In some ways Christchurch still hasn't recovered from the 2011 earthquake and there are lots of people still fighting with insurance companies to this day.
Obviously I'm biased but I feel like they're worse than other sorts of disasters cause you can at least see a tornado/hurricane coming
