Holy hell that's awful. That's always been easily my greatest fear while tripping, the thought that an hour into the trip i get a phone call about an emergency (i almost always just turn my phone off for this reason, not like I'm going to be going anywhere for the next 8-12 hours) or end up having to talk to the police for some bonkers truly unfathomable reason. How'd the talking to the cops situation go, did you at least have a good time afterward?
That was quick thinking to get them out of your hair, nice job! I can definitely understand the paranoia sticking around for a while after. I'd probably feel like my imaginary safety bubble had been punctured and end up peaking out the windows or something.
