A spy balloon that doesn't collect data kinda sucks at what it's supposed to do. Almost like it's not a spy balloon, weirdlenin-confused

Such a bullshit headline, they can't even acknowledge that maybe there was nothing nefarious going on, even though the second half of the sentence all but confirms that.

spy balloon wasn't spying, eh? well it's a good thing they got that spy balloon. i'm glad the Pentagon looked into that Chinese spy balloon and now we can all rest easy knowing that the Chinese spy balloon which wasn't spying got shot down and investigated

For the price of the missile used to shoot down the balloon, you could take two rides two people could take one ride on an OceanGate submarine.

It's kinda nice to get news like this months or years in advance of libs.

Thinking about Havana Syndrome right now

reddit-logo threads on this are really funny because so many are saying uhhhh actually the US military is just pretending its not a spy balloon so they dont look bad/give up what they know about the spy balloon

I'm glad Reddit is committing ritual suicide by cutting off third party apps. I hope that site dies a quick and ignominious death, to be barely remembered by a few in 10 years like Digg.

Unlikely. Every existing company will continue to exist forever. We're stuck in the end of history and keep getting remakes and reboots and rebrands of the same things over and over

    • so they don't look bad

because letting an enemy float their alleged spy balloon for almost an entire week over their territory before suddenly going "oh shit" and pissing and shidding for another week before setting like 10 million dollars on fire to shoot a balloon down somehow isn't looking bad?

First, we blow up the balloon, saying that it is a spy balloon. After we've blown it up, we will intentionally make ourselves look like fools by publicly admitting that it was just a weather balloon. Nice!

This whole debacle hit the news cycle a day after Tyre Nichol's bodycam footage was released agony-immense

this might be down to Blinken's recent fruitless trip to China, where it was made clear that China won't perpetually negotiate with someone who will turn around and undermine them. Blinken said last week regarding the balloon "That chapter should be closed.”
