not that the source provided is bad, but if you want a source that you can agitate with, here's gizmodo https://gizmodo.com/france-bill-allows-police-access-phones-camera-gps-1850609772

you know how westerners are when you don't show them a source from one of the 10 publications that have misled them their entire lives

      it's only 1984 when it's communist

otherwise it's wholesome sparkling fascist police state, which is FIIIIIIIIIIIINE

I mean, even if China did do that, at least they're being honest about it. The US can already do this without a law because who is gonna take the FBI to court?

So I guess at least France is being upfront about their rapid decline into fascism?

A smart phone with easily toggled physical disconnects for the battery, cameras, and mics is one of those things that I want but will never get.

      yaay.

Just a reminder to treat your phone (and any other tech with mics/cameras) as if it's constantly recording everything around it. Cops in Canada also have the ability to remotely access these surveillance devices and they do use it. So never bring your phone to protests/demonstrations/civil unrest. If you must you should pick up a burner, preferably with cash, and keep the battery out unless you're actively using it.

Even with the main battery removed it is logging location data. Wouldn't be surprised if there are methods of using them as a passive bug like the soviets did with that "gift" to the US embassy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thing_(listening_device)

Would a faraday bag work for that sort of thing? I don't think it would be able to know its location if it's in one of those.

I was wondering about that too. IDK, do those things really work?

Shout out to 🇮🇪 for neither being part of NATO nor the fourteen eyes.

The best western country, in my humble opinion.

I find it funny when people hide the webcam of their cameras and not the cameras of their phones. Some people call me paranoid for covering all of it, but I prefer “correct”
