It's not always an option for people. Right now nobody is accepting Americans because of Covid, but for regular working class people it's nearly impossible to emigrate unless you have some sort of familial connections abroad. I have no family abroad and my skills aren't in high enough demand to justify accepting me as an immigrant for most countries. A shit ton more people who will be disproportionately affected will not have the choice to leave either.
But sorry, even though I would like to help any American migrant I could if the borders were open, my government does not take refugees from shithole countries.
I've thought about trying to join a couple of friends who are living and working in Japan, but I've lived abroad before and I really missed my friends and family back here. I think I've somewhat made my peace with suffering with my community over escape, but I have a feeling there are no good choices right now, unless you have WAY more money than I do.
