Hello,
I like to cook, and I like watching cooking videos (especially short ones as my attention span has been destroyed) but a lot of videos that get recommended to me are completely inaccessible to me due to expensive specialty hardware or are weirdly chuddy. If you know of some good channels, can you link them to me?
Thank you, --CapnCat
chef john is an easy watch
just one cookbook is good for japanese recipesChef John single-handedly taught me how to be a decent-to-pretty-good home cook, I can't recommend Food Wishes highly enough!
Hello it's Chef John from FOOOD wishes dot com WITH....
I love Chef John so much. He could teach anyone to cook.
I've always been a fan of "You Suck At Cooking" (no it's not the guy from casually explained)
Simple recipes, nonsensical language, intense sarcasm, the works!
oh yeah! I haven't watched that channel in a while, I'll have to check it out again
You can go a really long way with just a knife, an onion that goes up to four fifty-funion, a wangjangler, and a molecule decelerator.

fitgreenmind has recipes that are good for health
lifeofboris for easy slavic recipes, based attitude towards home cooking and his videos are entertaining enough for short attention span
spainonafork also makes easy to cook stuff, relaxing presentation
oldscoolkevmo is a chill old dude who makes short videos
some of theeburgerdude's recipes require powders that can only be found deep underwater in the ruins of R'lyeh but overall the channel also has a based (deep fried) attitude towards food
greatindianasmr Indian food is already a global superpower
That's what I was gonna recommend. Chinese dad knows his shit.
So Bon Appétit got canceled, but their test kitchen videos had absolutely great stuff.
Just a word of warning, zero of these people make vegan food:
Ethan Chlebowski is like a cross between Joshua Weissman and Adam Ragusea, in that he does deep dives on ingredients and techniques/methods, while being significantly less obnoxious than both. Helen Rennie is in the same wheelhouse and also recommended.
Jean Pierre puts on a lively show. He makes a pretty wide range of dishes, and even if I'm not interested in whatever specific thing he's cooking, I watch almost every time just because he's fun to watch and I usually learn something new I can apply to various other recipes.
Smoking and Grilling with AB is great if you like American (especially southern) comfort foods. He explains the recipes in a way that's direct and easy to follow, and doesn't often use expensive ingredients.
I love Jean Pierre, his presentation style is wonderful and I love his enthusiasm for cooking! He's definitely not a vegan cook but his enthusiasm is infectious!
https://youtube.com/@JKenjiLopezAlt Kenji is amazing, he has been doing this for a very long time and has a number of amazing videos but he is an expert with the wok. He does an extremely thorough job of explaining techniques and recipes and ingredients, highly recommend his videos.
https://youtube.com/@antichef does a very entertaining series of cooking out of Julia Child's cookbooks and trying to do his best following exactly along with how it's written. He makes terrible mistakes but always finds a way to get it done in the end.
https://youtube.com/@BrianLagerstrom is all about teaching new chefs, or giving you quick and easy ideas for what to make or how to make things in some unique ways. He is a great teacher imo and has some very good recipes and tips and tricks to save you a lot of time.
https://youtube.com/@NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW is a bit more chefy and will be a bit harder to pickup if you have very little experience cooking. But he has some great recipes and techniques for cooking amazing pasta and Italian dishes in general. I also love his mouth guard pov he does all the time, makes it seem like your standing over the stove or counter.
https://youtube.com/@mattymatheson Matty is well Matty. He's loud abrasive and gross, but his Just a Dash series has to be seen.
https://youtube.com/@FrenchGuyCooking Alex is more of a technician trying to find the perfect way to recreate things he's eaten and his Ramen series and Pasta series are very entertaining to consume.
I watch way to much cooking videos. I have a problem I think.
