honestly im kinda against it too. i hate cars and believe it or not, passenger planes are more efficient than cars in most cases, but especially over long distance. it should be noted that includes electric vehicles, theyre usually only 10-30% more efficient carbon wise than gas cars, at least in part due to our grid's reliance on gas. planes are still a form of mass transit, i just wish we could go to even more carbon reducing options. like if i could take a 8 hour high speed rail trip that costs the same as a 6 hour plane ride, id obviously do the HSR
to summarize: car culture is so fucking insane that driving a 400k pound mass of metal into the sky is cheaper carbon wise assuming the plane has a good number of passengers in it. and planes are only going to get better now that high density batteries are a reality.
but yeah they should absolutely tax the shit out of personal jets
I think the argument goes that if you're still going to keep capitalists, you can do more to combat climate change by using taxes on these activities than banning them. But the best thing for the climate would be to expropriate all private wealth of course.
people should just be traveling less tbh. like give me a good reason why someone should go halfway across the earth unless they are permanently migrating somewhere else? travel is a treat.

It is a privilege, that is destroying the environment. If you want to see the world by electric train or sailing boat, then fine.
