Pretty in-depth review after a first playthrough. It took him about 50 hours, but he played the early access, so he breezed through the first act, and he really knows his stuff. Normal people like you and me will probably need 70-80 hours for a playthrough. The game does have some issues, mostly minor bugs towards the end of the game, and the camera and inventory system can be a bit funky. However, with all that said, it seems to be a massive game in its genre. If you like CRPGs or consequence-heavy games, you should seriously consider this one. Plus, it's woke and makes chuds seethe.
oh dw i'll be having all the gay sex with my make believe characters... as soon as the download finishes
I heard there is a lot of sex and romance. Plus if you want you can run around naked including your party.
Asmodeus have all the color skin tones. Maybe that's a sign lol.
This channel usually does 100% reviews but for this one he did the review after a single playthrough. He said its gonna probably take him months to hit a 100% in Baldurs Gate 3. 100% Review is coming at a later date.
Sucks to hear. Hope it works out for you. Only thing I can say my download took forever.
I think the hype cycle for this game, and the Early Access complications, lead lots of people to be downloading 100+ GB at the same time lol. I know mine would show 30 mins remaining, and then disconnect for like 40 minutes.
I know like nothing about this game and only played a few minutes of Baldur's Gate 2 but the way people are melting down about this game makes me wanna play it. Do you think I should play the old one(s) first? I don't mind jank old games typically.
I dont think you need to play the old ones to "get" this. With that said if you played the old games and liked them there will be some fanservice in Baldurs Gate 3. Simply put if you like CRPGS there is a high chance you will like this. If you never cared for rpgs I dont think this game will change your mind on the gerne.
Is this a separate story? Or should I at least watch story overviews of the first two
It plays in the same world 150 years after Baldurs Gate 2. There are some characters from the first 2 games that appear in it and the city "Baldurs Gate" appears again in it. The game is made in such a way that you can go in blind without any previous knowledge. If you want you could watch a sort summary of the first 2 games I assume. I did stay mostly in the dark about Baldurs Gate 3 (so I dont spoil myself). Others might be able to say more on this topic.
Same channel has a short 12min story recap which I did watch. I think it goes over the most relevant story beats of game 1+2 but I never played them https://youtu.be/__GI7CrYnj8
The older games run on D&D 2ed rules, and this one is on 5ed rules, so the rules are basically completely different. The older ones are good though, just get the definitive editions if you want to, there's like 150 years in between old and the new game though so they're not necessary.
If you like old games and are new to/interested in CRPGs, there's a lot of older games out there you could play for cheap or free: Baldur's Gate and it's sequel and expansions, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights 2 and Mask of the Betrayer expansion, Arcanum, (the next few are much newer, but still cheap on sale or often free) Tyranny, Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
But if you want to play the big new game and have the money to spend, go for it! This one looks very newcomer friendly.
I had a ton of fun with the early access version I'm excited for the launch today
Staring at the finished download while I still have work to do... Might start developing some explosive poop issues wish me luck
It's me, your boss. I heard about your explosive poop issues. Don't worry; you can take the next 3 weeks off. Signed, your boss
I played a bit of this in EA (borrowed from a friends steam account). And tbh, I just have massive 5e fatigue. So I really just, got gut repulsion from touching it anymore, and only played like, and hour. I'm a huge tabletop nerd, and while I have some concrete complaints about 5e's mechanics (and many more about WotC), I'm most just tired of thinking about it, from having played it too much. Which is I guess a compliment for the system, even if I only played so much of it because its often the only system groups want to play.
I'm also a freak who loves diving into game mechanics, making frankly way to many character builds in Wrath of the Righteous (which, if you don't know, is based on Pathfinder 1st edition, a system I think is probably, overall, very much not as good as 5e, even if it does have a lot more character options).
I had to buy the random dungeon expansion for WotR just to have an outlet to get stupid character ideas out of my system lol
I still haven't gotten past the character creator. I really want to play a monk, but I can't quite put one together. Leaning towards the Folk Hero background and maybe gith or dwarf for them (or human or half elf or idk), but can't decide on masc/femme or really anything about this character.
Had a lot of fun making a half-orc bard, but I'm thinking I'll play him with the Dark Urge background (I'm guessing that's the So sayeth the wise Alondo path).
I love CRPGs, but choice paralysis hits me really hard lol.
