What happened to golden aspect ratios, and smartphones that felt like the dimensions of a book, or a sheet of paper?

Every time I look at a recent model of smartphone I feel like I tore off a single column of a newspaper.

16:9 was the best. Anything above 18:9 makes me not want to use it.
