    I had libs argue with me on "progressive" discords that Mitt Romney and George HW Bush are examples of good republicans lmao I hope they're crying right now

      Liberals like the idea, and many actually think that the only differences in politics aren't the end goals but the paths to get there. It's why they disliked Sanders, but also thought that Biden supported universal healthcare.

      They point to how these folks supported some form of healthcare reform, that the ADA got passed under HW, ect. The other piece of this is that Trump isn't really any different in terms of this sort of stuff (criminal justice reform, price controls on pharmaceuticals) but for whatever reason people think this is something totally new for the Republicans. The only real difference is the emphasis on culture war and that Trump is more obvious in terms of how he's self serving.

          The truth is every president or broader political figure does some good things and a lot of bad things.

          It's just that most people aren't as politically engaged as people here are and have far too short of a memory on the bad things. They're more concerned with everyone just getting along because they're already materially comfortable.
