I find it funny when libs say not to buy Chinese phones because they "may" send data to the CPC (because they connect to the internet from time to time, so scary!)
What can the CPC do worse than my own government can't? Like you should be more scared of the government you live under, not one that's some 3000 miles away or whatever.
Don't buy Apple, it leaks data to the CIA.
The Chinese police might look at your DMs to see if you've talked about having an abortion... oh wait
Libs tend to assume that the "bad guy country" is 100 times worse than their own at all times, at all things. So if the US cops wantonly murder people in the street and the CIA tracks the calls of every US citizen, China must do all that but like...more. They're just better at hiding it.
Honestly I would rather Xi read my texts than all the feds Google is probably selling my data to.
I'm just like, if the CPC is spying on my shit, then that's just gonna be good for me if I ever decide to try and flee to there lol.
building up a rep for the eventual defection to the PRC
Imagine sitting in a room at Pudong Airport explaining pig poop balls to a Chinese refugee asylum official. Magical times we live in.
3000 miles away or whatever
Fun fact, the closest distance from mainland USA to China is still over 7000 miles, the lower 48 is around 3000 miles coast to coast. (Don't worry, I totally understand the rest of the comment, I just figured I'd provide additional context to point out just how preposterous the original joke is)
Edit: correction in italics
This is commie input (and correction!) without being an asshole. I love it here
since I am in oahu, I am closer to china than any of ya'll in the US MUAHAHAAAAA
im still in the US so fuck
Like you should be more scared of the government you live under, not one that’s some 3000 miles away or whatever.
This.
And Libs are so Apple loving that it had to fear monger to keep the loot going by keeping Huawei at bay.
Im sure Im already on the CIA’s/FBI’s list, might as well keep using the phone I already have
I recently bought a new phone from OnePlus and when looking at the specs online, one of the cons was: may leak data to Chinese government.
I hope not, they might find out I'm a commie or something
If you dislike the stock OS, or find it too bloated, you can flash LineageOS anytime. Most of the OnePluses are supported. It's a way better experience than any stock Android imho.
Except for the camera quality normally, because all of that A.I. assisted image processing is proprietary code.
Oh yeah, there are GCam variants and such, or even stock ones to sideload. Though I personally don't use them
TBF it would probably be easier for China to just keep a list of westerners that DON'T feel genocidal hatred towards them.
Which phone? 4G or 5G? How much did it cost? Still using Poco F1 bought in 2018.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G. It cost me 200 euro I think on discount from 229.
What device did you use you till now and since when? I don't like to change my device if it's not broken but once the battery gets old it becomes a compulsion to buy new phone due to unavailability of original batteries. Phone companies should provide original batteries till at least 5 to 6 years of launch.
Thats a good device you got there.
I had a Fairphone before this. The idea behind it, is that every part of the phone can be manually replaced. Unfortunately I managed to leak some oily hummus into the charging port. After a 80 euro repair it still was broken. I didn't really feel like spending 100-200 euro's fixing the phone with the chance of it being completely fucked, so I bought a new one.
The Fairphone was decent. It had a shit camera but everything else was pretty solid for a basic phone. The battery was still lasting more than a day at 2+ years of age. Their new one is a bit expensive though.
I don't use my phone that much except for WhatsApp and some social media, so a basic phone is good enough for me. The OnePlus I have now is affordable and decent, can recommend.
You could have exchanged that phone if you were in India while buying the phone online, if you were not planning on fixing and using it again in future. Could have saved few more bucks. Don't know if exchange offers available in Europe too.
Was it fairphone 3?
Yeah it was lol. Offers like that probably exist but I still have pictures I need to transfer etc.
he sadly is to busy bringing Utopia to the chinese people... It is horrible , you can not even be angry at him about it.
Unfortunately you're probably more likely entertaining the NSA agent than Xi
I paid 250€ for my current Xiaomi and I love it. It's ridiculous how good the phone is compared to its cheap price. No way I will stop using Chinese phones (especially since the CIA is a lot scarier than the CPC)
I love how, with the Snowden leaks and more, we know definitively that the US government is collecting all our data but people are super scared right now that China might be spying on them.
One thing's for sure: capitalism seems to be miles ahead of any socialist country when it comes to propagandizing their citizens. Because the best propaganda is the kind that you don't even know is there.
Lol, the US 3 letter agencies are more likely to disappear me than anyone in China.
please china disappear me out of this hellhole
Same, xiaomi phones are 10x better than samshits for a third of the price. Really funny that the with the US blocking huawei, and now soon xiaomi, that the US will have access to only the worst phones.
I might start looking at Xiaomi next... I started with Huawei but they're getting expensive now. Still very good phones, best camera on the market on the P50 pro at the time, but they're iPhone prices now
Dude, their redmi note series are bangers. I bought mine 2 years ago and still rocking it hard. Chinese phones are the best
Xiaomi phones are extremely good...i'm too deeply entrenched in Apple's ecosystem though.
Suggestions? My Motorola is getting rather dated. Do they still have aux ports? I hate the trend of companies getting rid of them.
I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro. I am happy to report that it has an aux port.
the CPC didn't coup almost every government in the global south lol
I don't get why someone would buy a dumb phone as a status symbol. I never liked those dumb devices in comparison to Android.
Can't even use Huawei in canada anymore. So much for the "free market"
to my knowledge, no. as far as i'm aware they are outright banned from the telephone networks
No Google services on Huawei is a big deal for a lot of people sadly. I know most left wing tech activists hate google services (and for good reason), but your everyday person just wants their google maps and photos to work.
I had a Huawei phone before all the nonsense happened, and it was pretty cool and great value for money hardware wise (one of the first with multiple cameras, great photos for the time), but the iOS rip off Android skin (EMUI I think) was super annoying.
I think nowdays Xiaomi is the best option in the budget Chinese phone market. Can't beat a 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED display on a sub 200 US dollar phone with Google services.
Is there really no way to sideload Google services? Or even to use a different rom?
LineageOS has no actively maintained builds for Huawei devices (but they used to, fairly recently) and it's a very limited selection of older devices for /e/OS.
idk much about rooting but if you can do it on the stock OS, you can install microG and get bare minimum features like push notifs working.
also FUCK google for locking essential features behind their pooprietary services. they will not be spared in the revolution.
Huawei has made it impossible to unlock your bootloader, thus flashing other ROMs doesn't work now.
that's a real bold move when their phones are already stunted without google play services on the stock OS. i now have zero reasons to recommend huawei. fuck 'em.
There is, but you end up needing to include the rest of the Google spyware just to enable Play.
I have not used google services since 2014. Like to use Custom ROMs. Its better having a new phone without google services instead of installing a custom rom to remove them.
I thing Chinese manufacturers should provide an alternative to this too.
Serious post: the new Huawei flagship phone looks pretty rad. I'll make the switch when my Sony breaks.
Every single phone I had from like 2015 onwards were all Chinese, and all of them were at least decent. (my trusted Huawei lasted well over 4 years I believe)
What types have you had? I’m looking to replace my Apple one which has lasted 4 years but right now have been leaning towards getting something open source next
The one I have atm isn't open source per se but should be easily rootalbe (to remove Google Spyware n stuff) since it's basically stock Google Android with few OEM stuff.
Its the power armor 13, it'd not for everyone since it weights 450grams (or a pound in native genocide units) but it's all battery, it lasts up to 4 days w/o charging and it fell like 10 times and only the glass Screensaver thing broke
It's about 300€ in Europe when in discount, if not it's about 350.
If you're looking for a normal degoogled phone I would suggest something that is supported by lineageos/postmarketos//e/
Edit: i had prior to Huawei being unsupported by Google 2 of their phones, then about 3 xiaomis and then this ulefone. Now that I hold 450g everytime I hold my phone every other phone seems fake
Yeah, that seems a bit big for me I think. Thank you for explaining that. What did you think of you Xiaomis?
Too much bloatware, but I don't remember if the bootloader is unlocked, if it is supported by custom roms you could flash one. If not, the price is really competitive, I paid about 180€ for a cell with mid-range hardware and that's a pretty good deal, but I would still flash a custom degoogled rom on it.
